Digital Learning / Dysgu Digidol

At Blackwood Primary School, we aim to support and develop digitally competent and confident pupils, equipped ready with the skills to help them succeed in the modern world. Our vision is to give children the opportunities to foster digital independence in a safe, competent and confident way. We hope to use digital technology to transform teaching and learning in a way which will equip all learners with the skills needed to live, learn, and work in the modern technological 21st Century.

The need for our children to learn the appropriate digital skills relates to the increasingly scientific and technological age where children need to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes to prepare them for life in the 21st Century and beyond!

Through the teaching of science and technology within the Curriculum for Wales we aim for our children to be:

  • ambitious, capable learners, ready to learn throughout their lives
  • enterprising, creative contributors, ready to play a full part in life and work
  • ethical, informed citizens of Wales and the world
  • healthy, confident individuals, ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.

“Digital competence is increasingly fundamental to learning and life and it should have similar status within the curriculum to that of literacy and numeracy”

“Digital competency should not primarily be predicted on rapidly changing technologies, but should focus on pedagogy, deeper skill development, transferability, and understanding, as well as potential application of these competencies”.
